Pathways to Reconciliation & Industry Inclusion

Writer: syilxsocietycannabsyilxsocietycannab

My family, our band, and the roots we grew from stem from the Treaty 6 territories. How brilliant it was to return home to see @growupconference recognize and give space to Truth & Reconciliation Day and be a leader in the event circuit by spotlighting our Indigenous experts and elders with this panel.

The involvement of Indigenous peoples, or lack thereof, from the get-go in the Health Canada-regulated canna market needs to be persistently reviewed and improved on. In the upcoming months, we will see more education surrounding the rising Red Market and sovereign land rights, with more hopeful opportunities for native voices. I encourage all canna businesses regardless of what market their operations work within, to reach out to your local bands, elders, and indigenous advocate voices to educate you and your team - or better yet, collaborate with eachother.

I’m thankful to have felt a new level of connection over the past week, due to so many well-intentioned actions. Including seeing elders from where I was raised and where I currently reside in the syilx lands of the Okanagan Valley. Togetherness and collaboration have never felt so powerful in my six years in the cannabis industry.

Hiy hiy - Thank you”
