Jayna Pooley
Treasurer
Jayna Pooley is a resilient Indigenous entrepreneur, healer, and advocate, serving as Treasurer of the Syilx Cannabis Society and owner of Top Hat Cannabis in Vernon, BC. Her journey into the cannabis industry is deeply personal—one of perseverance, healing, and reclaiming traditional medicines.
After years of physically demanding work in the forestry and fisheries industries, Pooley lost her ability to walk at just 32 years old. Her path to recovery led her to medicinal cannabis, a plant she credits with helping her regain mobility. Today, she shares her story to inspire others and advocate for cannabis as a powerful Indigenous medicine.
At Top Hat Cannabis, she provides medical-grade edibles, tinctures, topical salves, and traditional Indigenous plant medicines, offering safe, tested, and high-quality products to her community. Her business is not just about cannabis—it’s about reconnecting with ancestral healing practices and supporting Indigenous self-determination in the industry.
As Treasurer of the Syilx Cannabis Society, Pooley plays a key role in financial planning, resource management, and supporting First Nations businesses. She is also a strong advocate for Indigenous-led cannabis governance, working alongside organizations like the Union of BC Indian Chiefs to push for policies that respect First Nations sovereignty in the industry.
“Cannabis gave me a second chance, and now I’m committed to making sure Indigenous people have access to safe, traditional medicines that heal.” – Jayna Pooley
